With a week off, June turned out to be action-packed, and I managed to complete 3 more experiences. After these three, call me a lady of leisure, as that’s how I feel!
#2: Try a new sport
I’ve been wanting to try a new sport for a long time, and I’ve been eyeing up the council’s tennis courts in St Margaret’s Park, where the dog and I frequent. So, Andrew and I booked a slot for £1, which you can do here.
We bought a couple of tennis rackets at Decathlon and off we popped. We played for an hour, and I couldn’t believe how exhausting it was. It was a full-body workout, especially if, like me, you kept missing the ball and had to run after it. Overall, it was so much fun, and we’re going to make it a regular thing now that we’ve got the rackets.

#3: Visit a wine bar
With the number of wine bars in Edinburgh, it’s surprising that I’ve never been to one. Something about it feels a bit fancy. But I’m nearly 30 now and it’s time to be fancy. We keep meaning to visit our local one, Little Rascal in Corstorphine, so now’s the perfect opportunity.
We went all out! We ordered lots of nibbly bits and shared a bottle of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo red. We felt very sophisticated and absolutely belonged. We didn’t even have to pour our own drinks; the staff did it for us. It turns out I don’t have expensive taste in food because the truffle crisps were a big no-no! Nonetheless, I highly recommend visiting this wine bar to make you feel très fancy.

#4: Try a new craft – punch needle workshop
I’ve been trying to organise more girls’ days with Anita and Karen, and doing a craft workshop together just felt like the perfect outing for us.
We booked a 3-hour punch needle workshop at the Edinburgh Craft Club, led by Amy. First of all, the space was so colourful and cute! There were 8 of us in total, and we were all chatting and having a laugh.

Punch needle is a type of embroidery, but instead of complicated stitches, you simply punch the needle in and out of the fabric to create a design. It didn’t take us long to get the hang of it, and it was quite relaxing punching the fabric over and over. The time flew by, and we were really pleased with our new creations!

Honestly, this was such a fun day, and I really want to continue trying new experiences with friends. Sometimes I forget we live in a city full of things to do. Will I try my hand at punch needle again? It’s likely! Unlike other crafts that take a while to learn, this seemed a bit easier, and I love the fluffy textures.
Stay sporty, creative, and drink wine.
Warmly,
Kayla
